Family Focus, Inc. is comprised of many talented individuals with extensive experience providing services to children with developmental disabilities, mental illness and challenging behaviors. Presently, we have a staff of 30 Behavior Support Specialists who work side by side with a child who has a developmental disability and/or a mental illness either in the school, or in the home working closely with the family.

All of our services are done on a fee for service structure. We have contracts with several local school districts, mental health agencies and the Department of Developmental Disabilities. We also offer services to families who choose to contract with us privately and offer them a reduced rate. We opened our doors in July 2007, and have grown rapidly to meet the needs of the community.  In 2007 we provided 1,127 hours of service; in 2008, we provided 11,592 hours of service, while in 2009 we provided 29,016 hours of service and continue to provide high quality services at this rate in 2010.

Our services are available to schools and families 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in both King and Snohomish Counties. Our primary concern is meeting the needs of the family. Our experience tells us that families historically work with providers who are rigid and inflexible, so we strive to give them the opposite experience. As an agency, we don't expect families to work around our schedule, rather, we will work around theirs, and we realize that their schedule and needs change regularly, sometimes even daily. We attempt to accommodate our families’ needs on a scheduled basis but also respond to a crisis situation that may occur.

Children are referred to Family Focus by their case manager or the school district. Typically a child’s behavior is so challenging that either the teacher or the parent needs specialized assistance to manage the behaviors. We develop a plan and implement a program that can benefit everyone and continue even after we have completed services. Often we work with parents who are struggling so much that they are so relieved to have an extra pair of hands and support. Most of our families need help with tasks that many of us take for granted, such as the ability to run to the store, or taking a much needed and well-deserved break. Other times, we are hired to build a bridge between a child and an institution that he/she is returning home from. Returning to the family can be challenging and if not done with consistency from the institution and extra supports for the family, then success can be limited.
